The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project has received a significant push forward as Bangalore Rail Infrastructure Development Enterprise (K-RIDE) officially issued a work order to Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.
The contract involves the supply of 153 air-conditioned, broad-gauge, metro-style coaches for Corridor-2 and Corridor-4 of the suburban rail network. The total value of the order is estimated at ₹1,513.75 crore.
The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project is aimed at transforming urban mobility by easing traffic congestion and providing a reliable, high-capacity public transportation system for commuters across Bengaluru and nearby regions.
Officials said the deployment of modern metro-type coaches is expected to enhance passenger comfort, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the suburban rail system’s role as a sustainable mass transit solution for the region in the years ahead.
